Thai foot massage originated approximately 2000 years ago and was originally used within households amongst family members to cure any ailments. It was strongly influenced by the Indian Ayurvedic system of healing as well as having aspects of traditional Chinese medicine and elements of shiatsu, reflexology, Chinese massage and yoga
Thai foot massage is a wonderfully relaxing massage of the feet and lower legs, various points of the feet and legs are kneaded, stretched, massaged and pressed, with particular pressure from the thumbs and knuckles as well as using a traditional foot massage stick to stimulate reflex points. Thai foot massage treats the body as a whole as it incorporates elements of reflexology (certain points on the foot correspond to other areas of the body) therefore all the major body parts and internal organs are stimulated. Thai massage is also known for its work on energy lines also called “Sen Lines” in Thailand. Many Asian body massages and holistic therapies are based on energy lines or sen lines on the body. If the energy lines or sen lines are blocked, illness can develop. In Thailand it is called “Sen”, in China it is called “Chi”, in Japan “Ki”, and in India it is called “Prana” As the reflex points on the feet are stimulated any blockages or 'stuck' energy is released allowing a better flow of energy around the body, promoting healing.
Thai foot massage can be effective in healing many ailments as well as being a wonderful treatment for promoting overall heath and providing a sense of well being.

What is Indian head massage?
Indian head massage is a form of massage of the head neck and shoulders derived from the Indian ayurvedic tradition created in India thousands of years ago. The aim of the massage is to release any tension that is being held in these areas and in doing so rebalancing the energies. We spend so much time thinking, so this treatment can really help to calm the mind; it is deeply relaxing and calming. Indian head massage is especially good for relieving stress, tension, insomnia, headaches, migraine and sinusitis. Clients report that the experience is extremely calming and relaxing, leaving them feeling energised and revitalised and better able to concentrate.
A range of different techniques is used to release tension and create a sense of total relaxation and well being. It helps to relieve muscular discomfort and tension as well as enhancing the senses and promoting clear thinking.
Starting at the upper back the treatment begins by applying pressure to points that dissolve knots and relax the muscles. The shoulder and upper arms are massaged as these are common areas of tension, and then onto the neck and head to release headache-causing blockages and to encourage better circulation. The massage then continues to the scalp, relaxing the entire head, encouraging circulation and stimulating hair growth. Lastly a gentle face massage which is wonderfully relaxing and may relieve symptoms of sinusitis & headaches, it also encourages good circulation and a glowing complexion similar to that of our natural lift facial massage. Hopi ear candling also known as Thermal Auricular Therapy is a pleasant and gentle treatment of the ears. It is used to treat a variety of conditions associated with the ear, nose and throat areas. The therapy is widely used by doctors in Europe and America as an alternative to conventional treatments such as antibiotics, ear syringing and grommets (A grommet is a very small tube that is inserted into the ear through a small cut in the eardrum. It is used to treat a condition called glue ear found mainly in children) A grommet will drain away fluid in the middle ear and help to maintain the air pressure in the middle ear cavity.
Hopi ear candling is an ancient and natural therapy. It is believed that the Ancient Greeks used ear candles, initially probably for cleansing, purifying and healing on a spiritual basis, but much later on a more physical basis. The practice became more widely known due to the native American Hopi Indians of North Arizona. Ear candles were used traditionally by the tribes Shamen healers and this was depicted in ancient wall paintings showing the use of ear candles in initiation rituals and healing ceremonies of the tribe. Today's candles are still made today on the basis of the old traditional formula originating from the Hopi Indians.
The process of Hopi candling involves a specially designed hollow candle being inserted just inside the ear canal. The hopi candle is then lit and the suction that is formed draws secretion, the ear canal is gently stimulated and the vapour collects and removes impurities or deposits. Often referred to as the ‘chimney’ effect. The rising air gives the ear drum a gentle massage and also helps to regulate ear pressure. This is soothing, calming and protects the irritated areas.
Users of Hopi ear candles have reported success in treating balance and inner ear problems, build up of wax, ringing in the ears, tinnitus, hearing difficulties and sinus problems as well as colds, ‘flu, sore throats, hay fever, rhinitis, stress, headaches and migraines. The treatment is suitable for children particularly those that suffer from 'glue ear' and it is a good alternative for people who do not like having their ears syringed.

What is natural lift facial massage all about?
Natural lift facial massage is a blend of techniques including acupressure and facial reflexology as well as the massage techniques of Anma, the traditional system of massage in Japan, and Ayurveda the ancient Indian healing method. All of these techniques work together to act as a natural face lift, to prevent and reduce facial wrinkles and age spots and to improve the complexion and remove toxins from the face. The surface of the face is treated as well as the deep facial tissues.
This treatment is great for those looking for a natural alternative to Botox or surgery. It produces the equivalent of an acupuncture face lift but without the needles and unlike Botox or surgery there are no nasty side effects. The effects of this massage are brought about due to the release of tension from the muscles as well as the improved blood flow. Lymphatic drainage is encouraged as the lymph vessels are very close to the skins surface and the massage greatly improves puffy, saggy or grey looking skin. As we age our skin looses its elasticity this facial massage helps to promote lost skin elasticity through toning the fibres in the skin to promote flexibility.
Not only will this treatment leave you with a healthy glow and looking and feeling fabulous but this massage is a wonderfully relaxing treatment in itself (between me and you I fell fast asleep!) It is very, very soothing and relaxing. There are no products involved just a little oil (usually grapeseed oil) and as this soaks into the skin it leaves it feeling soft and smooth. The massage itself works as a wonderful exfoliation, dead skin cells are loosened and new younger cells are revealed. The energy centres of the body are balanced using the pressure applied to the meridian points and any blockages are released, enabling the flow of energy to the body’s energy system to be restored. This is a truly wonderful treatment not only does it produce fantastic results but it is deeply relaxing, calming and soothing.
One treatment will get you results, but this treatment is more beneficial after a course of 4-6 treatments.
In summary this massage can help to
Reduce expression line and wrinkles
Improve skin suppleness
Release any muscle tension in the face and jaw
Aid the removal of dead skin cells
Tones the skin and muscle tissue
Promotes blood circulation
Stimulates cellular activity
The treatment time is 1 hour and the cost is £30

Hot stone therapy, technically termed geothermotherapy, has been used for centuries as a form of massage or healing therapy. It’s history can be traced back to the ancient Egyptians as well as the native Americans who used stones in their ‘rights of passage’ as well as using heated stones in their sweat lodges which were used to purify one’s spirit. The Hawaiian people used lava stones wrapped in leaves for healing and meditation and the female healers of the Mapuche tribes used black river stones for spiritual healing, divination and pain relief. Throughout history the effects of using heated stones on the body has been researched but it was Mary Nelson of Tuscon Arizona who first introduced the use of hot and cold stones in her massage work. She also incorporated Zen philosophies and cultural traditions of east Polynesia and she called this form of massage LaStone therapy.
Hot stone massage follows the principles of Swedish massage but with the addition of stones that have been warmed. It is a holistic approach which means the whole body, mind and spirit is taken into account not just the symptom. It is a very comforting, relaxing and natural treatment and it is safe for most individuals (there are some contra indications and these will be discussed at time of booking) The stones used are basalt stones and this type of stone is used primarily as they retain their heat. The stones are placed on and around the body for example they are placed on the back, the back of the neck and behind the knees. Whilst the heat from the stones is transferred to the body other hot stones are used to massage the body.
The benefits of hot stone massage include
Improves circulation and increases blood supply to the muscles.
Toxins and waste are eliminated more quickly
Tension in connective tissue is released
The heat from the stones can penetrate 3-4cm into the muscle and can relieve pain
It is said that one massage stroke given by the therapist with a hot stone is worth ten normal massage strokes and the effects last longer than a conventional holistic massage. Hot stone massage is a wonderful relaxing treatment and is a great way to help you to relax and unwind.
Louisa Brown Holistic Therapies is very happy to be offering hot stone massage from the 15th June so contact us to book on 07966688465 or louisabrownholistictherapies.com The cost of the treatment is £40 for 1 hour

One of the services we provide here at Louisa Brown Holistic therapies is reflexology. Reflexology is a holistic therapy that treats the person as a whole rather than just focusing on the symptoms of the physical problem. Holistic therapies takes into account the emotional, social and spiritual aspects of a person's needs as well as the physical. Reflexology has a long history, there is evidence it was used in China as far back as 4000BC as well as in Egypt at around the same time. The North American Indians have practised a form of foot therapy for thousands of years.
Reflexology is based on the theory that there are reflex points on the feet and hands that correspond with different areas of the body. There are thousands of nerve endings in the feet and each corresponds to a part of the body, when pressure is applied to these areas it stimulates the movement of energy along the nerve channels and helps to restore balance throughout the whole body. The theory is that reflexology helps the body to restore balance in the body naturally. Usually, after a reflexology treatment you may fell less tense and more relaxed. You might also notice that you get a good nights sleep (better than usual!) and that your general mood is lifted and your overall sense of well being improving.
Many people think that reflexology is just a foot massage, it is much more than this. Research has been carried out into the benefits of reflexology including in the the reduction of pain, improvement of blood flow, how it can aid post operative recovery and in easing child birth and pregnancy symptoms. It is a powerful therapy which has been shown to have a very positive effect on health and well being. When a part of the body is not working at its best, a sensitive area will be found in the part of the foot or hand that corresponds to that part of the body. By working over sensitive reflexes through a course of reflexology treatments the tenderness will usually decrease as the body starts to function properly again as it achieves homoeostasis.
The best way to see if reflexology works for you is to try it for yourself! It can be beneficial for many symptoms, a recent article in the Daily Mail states an increasing number of women claim reflexology has helped them conceive and a medical study has been launched to discover if the claims are true. It can also be beneficial for sufferers of the following:
Stress related conditions
Preparation for birth
Even if you do not suffer from any ailment, reflexology is a wonderfully relaxing treatment. Most of us lead busy lives and have little time to ourselves so why not relax and unwind with a reflexology treatment and have a little 'you time'
If you have any questions or would like to book a reflexology session please call Louisa on 07966688465
Losing weight can be difficult, for some there it is a process of losing weight, then putting it back on, losing weight again and so the yo-yo diet continues. It's not easy. Many people come to me for hypnotherapy for weight loss as a last resort, which I always feel is such a shame as hypnotherapy is a great way to help you to gain control and loose the weight you need to. Many clients have tried several different types of diet and have been unsuccessful or sucessfull only to a certain point, that last stone ma. If you are motivated to make a change hypnotherapy may very well be able to help you.
There are several factors that lead to obesity, these include eating the wrong foods, eating irregularly, portions sizes that are too large, lack of physical activity or comfort eating. What happens is we get into bad habits, we make associations, every time we have a cup of tea, that means we have a biscuit and so it goes on. It is our belief systems that lead us to behave, when we say 'I cant' loose weight, 'I cant' stop or 'I cant' say no, that determines our behaviour. As Henry Ford once said "whether you think you can, or you think you can't you're right" Programs that promise fast, easy results have their difficulties, we expect to lose weight without changing our eating patterns or lowering our calories, what we really need to focus on is removing our old patterns of behaviour and replacing them with new ones.
There are obvious health concerns to being overweight (you may need to lose weight if your BMI is over 25) these include
Type 2 diabetes
High blood pressure
Poor circulation or circulatory problems
Not only are there concerns for health, there is also the emotional aspect, being overweight can lead to low self esteem or self confidence, anxiety or stress.
Hypnotherapy can help you lose weight quickly and easily by removing our old though patterns and replacing them with new ones. It is a very safe, very natural process that has been used for centuries. Unfortunately many people have misconceptions about hypnotherapy due to television programs and stage shows that have people carrying out weird and wonderful performances for entertainment purposes. A typical session starts with taking the full details of the client and establishing the history of their presenting problem. I then act as a coach, I coach you into a deep state of relaxation, using guided visualisations, which then enables suggestions to be put to your subconscious mind (this part of the brain that controls bodily function) when a person enters such a state of relaxation, there is an increased concentration of the mind, the body relaxes and there is an increased susceptibility to the suggestion. Once the suggestion is accepted by the subconscious mind it must result in action. During hypnosis you are not asleep, out of control, you cannot be told to do anything you don't want to do or be forced to reveal any of your thoughts, feelings or deep dark secrets! Yes we can all be hypnotised (as long as we want to!)
The session lasts about 1 hour and 15 minutes and yes you are safe to drive home (many of my clients ask me this!) you will feel wonderfully relaxed and calm. I could share with you quotes from my clients saying great things about great results, but I will spare you the hard sell, all I can say is if you are motivated to make a change hypnotherapy could be very beneficial for you.
If you have any questions at all about hypnotherapy for weight loss please do not hesitate to give me a call on 07966688465 or email me email@example.com
What is hypnotherapy?
Hypnotherapy is a wonderful therapeutic process that has benefits that enable you to make positive changes. There are may psychological, physical and emotional disorders that hypnosis can be applied to, these include weigh loss, stress and anxiety. It has been shown to help people overcome addictions such as smoking or alcoholism and It can help with stammering or blushing. Phobias lend themselves particularly well to hypnotherapy and panic attacks or obsessive compulsive behaviour, and stress-related problems like insomnia, may benefit. It is such a shame that people come for hypnotherapy as their last resort, hypnotherapy is a wonderful treatment that can produce great results.
How does it work?
Hypnotherapy is the process of inducing a deeply relaxing state in such a way that the analytical left-hand side of the brain is turned off, while the non-analytical right-hand side is made more alert. The conscious control of the mind is subdued, and the subconscious mind becomes alert and receptive. Since the subconscious mind is a deeper-seated, more automatic force than the conscious mind, this is the part which has to change for your behaviour and physical state to alter. For example if you want to overcome your fear of spiders you may have done several things to help you overcome this fear, but this fear will stay put as long as long as your subconscious mind holds onto this fear. Hypnotherapy will 'reprogram' your subconscious mind so that these deep seated fears are eliminated or changed.
What hypnotherapy isn’t!
During all times during the hypnotherapy process you are in control. You are not alseep, you will be very much awake and alert. You will not be asked to do anything you would not ordinarily do. You will remain fully aware of your surroundings and situation, and are not vulnerable to every given instruction of the therapist. The important thing is that you want to change some behavioural habit or addiction and that you are highly motivated to do so. Any suggestion accepted by the subconscious mind must result in action.
There is a tendency to think of hypnosis as something that is used as a form of entertainment, and this was the case a few years back. A highly trained hypnotherapist is absolutely not concerned with hypnosis for the purpose of entertainment. It is a therapeutic process that enables you make positive changes. It is not a magical form of mind control, at no point can you be made to do something you don't want to do. Anybody can be hypnotised, some are able to reach a deeper state of hypnosis than others, when we daydream, doze or meditate we actually enter the altered state we call hypnosis.
What can hypnotherapy help me with?
OCD (Obsessive compulisve disorder)
Low self esteem
And many more
Please contact Louisa for a consultation where we will talk about the hypnotherapy process, your presenting problem and the course of treatment All information given is strictly confidential. firstname.lastname@example.org
Meditation is a safe, simple and inexpensive way to balance your physical, emotional, and mental state; its many values have been known and practiced for thousands of years. More and more doctors promote the benefits of meditation to cure many stress related illnesses. Everyday most of us experience stress in many different ways and most people are not aware of the benefits of meditation, these benefits include:
· Increased blood flow and slower heart rate
· Good for high blood pressure
· Reduces stress and anxiety
· Decreases muscle tension
· Reduces Pre-menstrual Syndrome symptoms
· Improved flow of air to the lungs resulting in easier breathing
· Stimulation of the immune system and production of white blood cells
· Increased circulation to the digestive system
· Harmonizes our endocrine system
· Helps control own thoughts
· Increases creativity
· Increases productivity
· Increased emotional stability
· Improved relations at home & at work
· Less aggressiveness
· Helps insomnia
There are so many more things I can add to that list!
I will take myself as an example, I was always had terrible trouble sleeping, It would take me ages to get to sleep and If I ever woke in the middle of the night that would be it! I would be awake until the sun came up! so I spent many days grumpy and not performing at my best because I had been awake half the night.I started meditating about 6 months ago, I can’t remember how I came about meditation probably through one of the books I was reading, but I gave it a go. It takes time and practice and is must be something that you do every day but after I had mastered the technique things began to change, not only do I now sleep like a baby (I drift off almost instantly and If I wake up in the middle of the night I go straight back to sleep again! wonderful!) I have also noticed I have more clarity of mind, I don’t worry about things, I don't get stressed out by the little things - not being able to find a piece of work I need or having too much to do, I can take things in my stride a lot easier and more calmly. I also seem to get so much more done, I work full time and run my own business which I was finding hard work, now I even have time to write a blog or two! It really is incredible!
Now the hard science has caught up with what we knew all along: a comprehensive scientific study showing that deep relaxation changes our bodies on a genetic level has just been published. What researchers at Harvard Medical School discovered is that, in long-term practitioners of relaxation methods such as yoga and meditation, far more ''disease-fighting genes'' were active, compared to those who practised no form of relaxation. In particular, they found genes that protect from disorders such as pain, infertility, high blood pressure and even rheumatoid arthritis were switched on. The changes, say the researchers, were induced by what they call ''the relaxation effect'', a phenomenon that could be just as powerful as any medical drug but without the side effects.
So now you know how wonderful meditation can be for you, how do you give it a go??
There are many different types of meditation but the easiest one to start with is a simple breathing meditation, find a quiet place where you wont be disturbed make sure you will not be distracted so make sure you switch of your phone.
Sit in a position that is comfortable to you, you don’t have to go the whole hog and sit in the full lotus position just yet! Wear loose fitting clothes and sit comfortably, in a chair, cross legged whatever is best for you, keep your back straight whatever position you choose.
Close your eyes and take a few deep breaths, and relax. If it helps start at the top of the head and work your way down, relax your forehead, shoulders, arms, stomach, legs and feet. Breath through the nostrils, don’t try to control your breathing but be aware of the sensations as your breath enters your body and then leaves, imagine you are breathing out any stress or anxiety.
The aim is to clear our mind of anything other than our breathing; we are just trying to focus on that, concentrate on your breathing to the exclusion of everything else, the first stage of meditation is to stop distractions and make our mind clearer and more lucid.
At first, our mind will be very busy, and we might even feel that the meditation is making our mind busier; but in reality we are just becoming more aware of how busy our mind actually is. Don’t follow the thoughts as they arise, don’t dwell on them let them pass and refocus on your breathing. If it helps you can count the breaths in order to focus you mind.
If you find your mind id very busy just keep refocusing on your breath, repeat this as many times as necessary until the mind settles on the breath. Do this for 10-15 minutes to start with. Once you have finished open your eyes and grab yourself a glass of water.
If your mind was busy and you struggled to focus don’t beat yourself up! Meditation takes practice; it must become something you do daily, once you have been meditating for a little while you will begin to find it easier to focus on your breathing and have more frequent, longer periods of time focusing on nothing else. When the turbulence of distracting thoughts subsides and our mind becomes still, a deep happiness and contentment naturally arises from within. This feeling of contentment and well-being helps us to cope with the busyness and difficulties of daily life. So much of the stress and tension we normally experience comes from our mind, and many of the problems we experience, including ill health, are caused or aggravated by this stress. Just by doing this simple breathing meditation for ten or fifteen minutes each day, we will be able to reduce this stress. We will experience a calm, spacious feeling in the mind, and many of our usual problems will fall away. Difficult situations will become easier to deal with, we will naturally feel warm and well disposed towards other people, and our relationships with others will gradually improve.
If you have any questions, are interested in meditation classes or just want to drop me a line to tell me about the great changes you have noticed in yourself! Please contact email@example.com
Hi All! I'm not sure If you have heard of Reiki? some people have some havent. A lot of people think of it as some sort of spiritual nonsese so I though I would talk you through what it is and more importantly what it isnt.
Reiki (pronounced Ray-key) is a Japanese word meaning Universal Life Energy, an energy which is all around us.
Reiki is the name given to a system of natural healing which evolved in Japan from the experience and dedication of Dr Mikao Usui (d. 1926). Dr Usui was inspired to develop this healing system from ancient teachings after many years of study, research and meditation. He spent the rest of his life practising and teaching Reiki. Today Reiki continues to be taught by Reiki Masters who have trained in the tradition passed down from Master to student.
There is no belief system attached to Reiki so anyone can receive or learn to give a Reiki treatment, the only prerequisite is the desire to be healed.
A Reiki Treatment
The method of receiving a Reiki treatment from a practitioner is a very simple process. The recipient simply lies on a couch and relaxes. If they are unable to lie down the treatment can be given in a sitting position, the main thing is for the recipient to be as comfortable as possible. There is no need to remove any clothing as Reiki will pass through anything, even plaster casts. The hands are placed non-intrusively in a sequence of positions which cover the whole body. I actually prefer to hover my hand over a few inches over my clients body so that I can tell where the reiki needs to go. Reiki is a smart energy that automatically flows where the imbalances are in your body regardless of where the hands are placed. The whole person is treated rather than specific symptoms. A full treatment usually takes 1 hour with each position held for several minutes. Most people notice a difference after the first treatment, and the benefits grow with repeated sessions.
Because Reiki treatment is balancing at every level, it can help anyone who is interested enough to experience a treatment. If you are tired, you’ll feel refreshed. If you are anxious, you’ll feel serene. If you are distressed, you’ll feel comforted. Where you feel overwhelmed, you’ll find a renewed sense of yourself. And these subjective changes will be accompanied by physical changes indicative of deep relaxation, such as a slower heart rate and easier breathing.
What Reiki isnt
Reiki is not religious. You can practice any religion (or none) and still use and benefit from Reiki. Reiki Founder Mikao Usui was influenced by the religions of his country, Shintoism and Buddhism. But Reiki isn't associated with any religion, and people of all faiths and beliefs are Reiki practitioners. Reiki isn't New Age either.
Reiki is not massage or reflexology. Reiki is an energy-healing system and not a manipulative system (hands moving the body). Reiki is distinct from reflexology and massage. But Reiki is sometimes confused with other hands-on healing arts, especially reflexology. Reflexology is the application of pressure to zones on the feet or hands that correspond to parts of the body.
So there you go a brief summary of what Reiki is and isnt, If you have any questions about reiki or would like to book a session please do not hesitate to get in touch on 07966688465
Bye for now!
